A walking monk meets a horseman and asks him:
— Where are you going?
The horseman replies:
— I don´t know, ask the horse!
The horse represents your emotions. Don't let your emotions control you or they will take you to places you don't want to go. Take control of your thoughts and emotions, so they take you where you want to go.
Learn how to control your emotions before arise. Then you can decide to stop them whenever they won't help you. Control them in the beginning. Don't identify yourself with your emotions. Observe them as an outsider, Change "I am angry", with "I am starting to experience anger in my body". This experience is not me, what can i do about it? Sometimes you can decide to let the emotion show, for example, if someone is trying to rip you off. On the other hand, anger will blur your creativity, and if you are talking to your boss when you start to experience anger in your body, you should stop it, change it for gratitude and compassion, and think of solutions that can benefit both of you.
What cat can i do to stop an emotion?
Change by a positive emotion, if you start to experience anger in your body, think about your hobby or a goal for a few minutes to replace the negative emotion.
He who has overcome his fears is truly free ― Aristotle
Fear is the path to the dark, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering — Yoda
Fear is the opposite of love. Fear is your enemy and creates destruction around. All fears come from the fear of death. For your brain an unknown noise in the jungle means a lion, and disappointing the tribe leader means no shelter, no food and no partner, which leads to death too. Today those fears make you save for retirement and take good care of people around you. However fear brings worry and limits your creative thinking, together with unnecessary fight and flight responses and fear paralysis.
Some risks are worth taking, like talking to the person that you like, changing your job for doing that you love, or solving a family conflict. However fear paralyzes your brain, which can only think to fight and fly.
Fear is like a ball going downhill, the more you let it run the faster it goes, so stop it in the beginning, deal with it as soon and decide how far you want the ball to roll. Take control of the horse, otherwise the horse will control you.
Challenge your fears with the So What exercise. Fear is like a dark side that can extend, pin point what you fear, and challenge the fear asking yourself what would be the worst that could happen, accept it as a possible solution and start working on improving that.
You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger — Buddha
When you get angry you look for external justifications. Notice that your anger comes from your inside and it's only your responsibility. Anger is a destructive emotion to run away (Flight) or destroy your enemy (Fight). However when you are with your boss or at home, you don't want to trigger any of those responses that can damage your important relationships. It also creates a tunnel vision that limits your creativity to come up with a solution that can benefit all. Let your angry thoughts pass and think of creative solutions that will benefit you and those around you.
Zig Ziglar says that Positive thinking by itself won't let you do anything. But it will let you do anything better than negative thinking. Look for the good in any situation, because every situation brings a new opportunity. Find the opportunities around you having always a positive mental attitude.
